When to send your wedding invitations

Timing your invitations well gives guests the chance to book travel, arrange childcare and clear their diaries — and gives you final numbers in time for your caterer and venue.

Save the dates: 8–12 months before

If you're marrying abroad, in peak season or on a bank holiday weekend, let people know early. A save the date only needs your names, the date and the town or country.

Invitations: 3–4 months before

For most UK weddings, sending the full invitation three to four months ahead is ideal. For destination weddings, aim for four to six months so guests can plan flights and accommodation.

RSVP deadline: 6–8 weeks before

Check your venue and caterer's deadlines for final numbers, then set your RSVP date two to three weeks before that. It leaves time to chase anyone who hasn't replied.
